Dunwoody Village Clinic (DVC) is a family medicine practice founded in the 1950’s and bought by James J. Kinahan, MD, PhD, in 2004. The clinic has operated in the Dunwoody, Georgia, community for more than 60 years.
The clinic transformed its remote patient monitoring program (RPM) with Prevounce, increasing enrollment from fewer than 10 patients to around 190 patients and generating $30,000 in monthly revenue. This partnership between DVC and Prevounce streamlined RPM program operations, enhanced patient retention, and expanded outreach to include Medicare and commercial patients.
DVC’s first attempt at establishing an RPM program encountered several challenges. Only 35 patients were enrolled, and fewer than 10 were billable. Patients manually logged blood pressure readings and brought their logbook to the office or called in for evaluation. There was also no ongoing outreach to patients, leading to low participation and multiple dropouts. Some participants described the program as a "pain to keep up."
DVC partnered with Prevounce to pilot a second attempt at an RPM program. The clinic initially purchased 15 cellular blood pressure monitors from Prevounce and went live on the Prevounce platform in June 2022. Patients were identified in DVC’s Medicare patient database using diagnosis codes. The program showed very quick, positive results, closing the first month with 30 highly engaged and billable patients. This prompted DVC to expand its partnership with Prevounce and collaborate on the development of a full program.
What's required to develop a profitable remote patient monitoring (RPM) program that effectively meets patient care needs? Rob Cushman discusses the launch and growth of Dunwoody Village Clinic's program in this on-demand webinar.

“I wanted a system that allowed us to identify critical patients and act quickly. With the Prevounce platform, we send a notification to the provider’s cell phone when a patient is in a certain range. We’ve been able to immediately contact patients with stroke-level readings and get them to the ER. If those patients didn't have the blood pressure cuff, and it wasn’t connected to their provider, no one would have known they were at risk.”
